This past Thursday, Catholic Men For Jesus Christ gathered for an evening of spiritual renewal at Saint William the Abbot in Howell, NJ. Men from across the Diocese of Trenton, representing various stages of life young professionals, fathers, and grandfathers came together to share in this powerful event. The night began with a meal, where we enjoyed food and fellowship, reconnecting with old friends and welcoming new faces. This sense of community and brotherhood set the tone for a significant evening.
Following dinner, Father Tom Maher, Pastor of Saint Willams the Abbot delivered a stirring reflection centered on the Cross and its significance in the life of a Catholic man. He reminded us that just as Jesus embraced His Cross, we too are called to carry our own. Father Tom emphasized that our crosses, though heavy at times, are not burdens to be avoided, but pathways to glory. He says, "Each cross we bear is Jesus preparing us for something greater His eternal glory." He touched on the profound reality of suffering, explaining that suffering is not without purpose, but rather part of the "School of the Cross," where we are taught by Christ Himself. As Catholic men, we are called to embrace suffering, not with despair, but with the hope of resurrection.
The reflection spoke to every man in the room, regardless of age or stage in life, reminding us all that our faith is a lifelong journey with its unique challenges. After the reflection, there was an opportunity for the men to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The church was filled with quiet prayer and contemplation, as many took this time to kneel before the relic of the Holy Cross a powerful reminder of Christ's ultimate sacrifice for us. The evening reached its spiritual peak with Holy Mass, where we came together in profound worship. As the night came to a close, Father Tom gave a final blessing, using the relic of the Holy Cross to bless each man present.
The evening was a moving reminder that as Catholic men, we are not alone in our journey. We are strengthened by each other and by the grace we receive from Christ through His Cross. This reflection was not just a time to contemplate our challenges but also an invitation to see them as opportunities for transformation.
